Our Joy Cecile

The poetic speech of the author, combining the conservativeness of form with avant-garde content, expands and updates in the new book both at the level of formal signs and at the level of meanings. The central part of Porvin's book is the poem "Our Joy Cecile," written about the Haitian priestess of the Voodoo cult Cecile Fatiman (Cecile Fatiman; 1771-1883), who played a significant role at the beginning of the Haitian Revolution that granted the country independence.
Alexey Porvin is a poet, translator, literary critic, co-editor of the publishing project "MRP," dedicated to contemporary poetry and prose. Born in 1982 in Leningrad. The author of five poetry books. His poems have been translated into English, German, French, Italian, Finnish, and Czech. He is a laureate of the "Debut" award in the "Poetry" nomination (2012) and has been shortlisted twice for the Andrei Bely Prize in the "Poetry" category (2011, 2014). He lives in Saint Petersburg.
