Konyonkov

The life of the outstanding sculptor Sergey Timofeyevich Konyonkov, bridging the 19th and 20th centuries, is full of contrasts and zigzags, largely explained by both his character and the essence of the time he lived in. At the same time, however, his life path is whole, deeply meaningful, rich in events and creative achievements, represented by the images of an indomitable spirit preserved in his sculptural works, graphics, journalism, and memoirs. A product of a peasant family, he reached the heights of recognition in both national and world art. The 20th century truly became his age, filled with various stylistic directions and creative experiments to which the sculptor sensitively responded. He was undoubtedly a pioneer of the spirit, like every artist of such a high professional level and profound philosophy of creativity. But Konyonkov became a pioneer of the spirit doubly—thanks to his boundless devotion to art and his unwavering faith in the creativity of labor, Christian truths, our people and their centuries-old history, and in Russia.
