A former red partisan who dreamed of freedom and equality in undivided Korea roamed the mountains of Paegunsan and Jirisan with a gun on his shoulder and did not change his beliefs in capitalist Korea, died by crashing into a telegraph pole. Death becomes a starting point and helps his daughter see in her father not just a partisan and communist, but a human being.

The novel, combining a broad scope and captivating narrative, unfolds over three days after the father's death. But as soon as one follows the stories told at the funeral, the harsh seventy years of modern Korean history come before the reader.
