Compromise. Suitcase

Sergei Dovlatov — one of the most popular and widely read Russian writers of the late 20th century. Like no one else, he was able to notice the absurdity of everyday life and tell it in such a way that the reader involuntarily recognizes themselves in the character. His novellas and stories have been translated into many languages, adapted into films, and studied by literary scholars. His work has long been recognized as a classic, but unlike many literary masters, Dovlatov does not become bronze; he remains bold, ironic, and incredibly charismatic.

This edition includes the novella "Compromise" and the cycle of stories "Suitcase". From 1972 to 1975, Dovlatov worked as a freelance correspondent for the Tallinn newspaper "Soviet Estonia". The stories from his journalistic practice later formed the book "Compromise". The hero of "Suitcase", on leaving for the USA, takes with him only a small suitcase, and each item inside becomes a reason for reminiscence.
