1986. East Berlin. They meet by chance on a bus and... cannot find the strength to part. She is nineteen, a student, he is thirty years older, a successful writer and radio host, married. Katarina grew up in socialism, Hans's childhood was spent in Nazi Germany.

Years go by. The lovers' relationship balances between passion and toxic dependence. Hans teaches Katarina about life, but when she shows independence, he reacts painfully and possessively...

Meanwhile, the world around them is changing. The wall, the state, and society are collapsing, along with the past life with all its beliefs, habits, and attachments. A time of hopes, but also uncertainty. A time of upheaval and bewilderment that, due to the age difference, Katarina and Hans will experience completely differently. The crack in their relationship will turn into an abyss of alienation, one that their love will no longer be able to overcome.
