The History of the Crusades

The Crusades... One of the brightest, bloodiest, and most mysterious pages of history – a history of inhuman courage and cruelty, religious fanaticism and subtle intrigues, greed and heroism. “The History of the Crusades” by J.-F. Michaud (1767–1839) earned a... reputation as a classic during the author’s lifetime. Michaud managed to present a wide panorama of the religious wars of the 11th-13th centuries with true artistic mastery, doing so in such a comprehensive and impressive manner that even today, in the midst of a new wave of religious-ethnic cataclysms, his book remains relevant. The proposed translation takes into account the flaws of previous translations and attempts, while significantly reducing the text, to preserve all the features of the author's extraordinary talent. The edition is accompanied by illustrations by the great artist Gustave Doré.
