Norbert Heinlein, a third-generation delicatessen owner, highly values traditions and quality. Customers come first for him, and he always serves them with exquisite politeness. This also applies to his new regular customer, the charismatic businessman Adam Morlock. Until one day he suddenly drops dead in Heinlein's shop after being poisoned by pâté. In a panic, the owner drags Morlock's body into an old cold storage room in the basement.

Frantically seeking a way out of this absurd situation, Heinlein only exacerbates it. In trying to keep everything a secret, he commits one crime after another – or rather, they happen somehow by themselves. And soon, Morlock has a grim company of dead bodies in the basement…
