Five Lectures on Curatorship

The book by the famous art theorist and curator Viktor Miziano represents the first attempt in the Russian language to theoretically describe curatorial practice. The emergence of the latter in the late 1960s - early 1970s is linked by the author to the transition from industrial to post-industrial (immaterial) production. The curator's activity is examined in the book in the context of the art system, as well as through the relationship between global and local artistic processes. The author explores the inner nature of curatorship, the language and ethics inherent to it. Originally read as a cycle of lectures at the Moscow UNII Institute, the text maintains a connection with spoken language and is accompanied by excursions into the author's professional biography.
