The tales were published in the 19th century by Peter Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe — collectors of folk traditions and good friends from Christiania (now Oslo). Their names are inseparable from Northern Norwegian folklore, just as the names of the Brothers Grimm are inseparable from foreign fairy tales.
