In this book, William Atkinson – an American writer and popularizer of psychology in the early 20th century – systematizes centuries-old experience in the development of mnemonic abilities. The author sequentially reveals the nature of human memory, considering it a complex yet improvable mental process.

The book presents both ancient mnemonic techniques, known to ancient orators, and modern (from the early last century) methods for memory training. Special attention is given to practical aspects: special exercises for developing associative thinking, methods of concentration, and systems for organizing memorized material.
