Herodotus

Herodotus was called the "Father of History" - and the "father of lies" - even in ancient times. He was acquainted with the politician Pericles, the playwright Sophocles, the sculptor Phidias, and the philosopher Protagoras. A Greek who was a... subject of the Persian empire, a participant in the conspiracy against tyranny, a political emigrant, one of the founders of colonies, Herodotus traveled tirelessly for decades, collecting information for his "Histories." He visited various corners of the known world at that time, from Egypt and Babylon to Italy and the northern shores of the Black Sea, and was the first to portray the historical process as a centuries-long conflict between East and West.
