Two Captains

"Two Captains" — the most famous and beloved novel by Veniamin Kaverin. The fate of its main character, Sanya Grigoryev, according to the author, "is full of labor, inspiration, and love for his Motherland and his work." It contains a... heavy, orphaned childhood, a journey to the Far North in search of a mysteriously vanished expedition, and, of course, love. The novel has been translated into many languages of the world, was adapted into films twice, and a monument was erected to its heroes in the author's hometown, Pskov.
This edition features rare colored illustrations by the remarkable Russian artist Yuri Gershkovich (1938 – 2013). These illustrations were published only once — during Veniamin Kaverin's lifetime, in 1971, and have not been reissued since. The book also includes graphic openings by artist Fyodor Glebov (1914 – 1980).
