At the end of the 19th century, five companies connected the "City of the Sun" with their railway network, making El Paso the largest center for cattle trade. Ranch owners from nearby lands in Texas and Mexico bring their cattle...
to the city to board trains heading north, east, and west across the United States of America. "El Paso" is based on the mechanics of its predecessors from the trilogy "The Great Western Trail".
"The Great Western Trail. El Paso" – is an exciting strategic game in which you will manage a ranch, hire workers, build buildings, and develop a railway network. The main goal is to deliver cattle to El Paso, earn the most profit, and leave competitors behind. The game is suitable for both experienced fans of board strategies and novices, as "El Paso" is a more compact version of the games from the original series, perfectly suited for quick matches. Ready to test your luck and strategic skills? Go for it!
How to play?
Players take turns moving their herders along the game path, aiming to accumulate as many victory points as possible. Each turn consists of three stages: movement, actions, and drawing cards.
The movement stage allows you to move the herder along the path to one or more locations, depending on the step limit on the board. Locations with tokens are places where various actions can be performed. It is important to remember that on the first turn, you can choose any token of a neutral building. When the herder reaches El Paso, their movement ends, and you must perform all actions associated with that city.
When the herder stops at a location, the action stage begins. You can build new buildings, use constructions, hire workers, buy cattle, earn money, and so on. Each action depicted on a token can be performed only once but in any order. Many of them have their own costs that must be paid.
After performing actions, if necessary, players draw cards to ensure their hand matches the limit, which starts at 4 cards in the game. This stage is called the drawing stage. Worker cards that enter your stack do not count towards the card limit and can be used later for additional actions.
The game continues until the last Simenthal cattle card is played. Once the next player reaches El Paso and all others take their final turn, the game ends, and the score is calculated.
Who won?
The player with the most victory points earned from various game actions wins. In the event of a tie, the herder with the most remaining dollars wins, which are converted into victory points. If it’s still a tie, the game is declared a draw.
