Doctor of Philosophy Jaromír Slushny - a Slovak writer, publicist, and educator living in the Czech Republic. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at Comenius University with a degree in archival science (historical sciences). After graduation, he taught at...
universities in Bratislava and Prague. The foundation of his publishing activity lies in the history of society's struggle against various manifestations of crime. But his area of interest is much broader. Starting from the history of Slovakia from the 8th to the 21st century, through the history of murders, natural and technological disasters, social scandals, and culminating in significant milestones or events in countries around the world.
Today, we are keenly exploring the significance of Celtic and Germanic gods, interested in the myths of these tribes, but we treat our own Slavic gods surprisingly coldly and indifferently. This may relate to the common belief that Slavic myths did not exist at all. However, to this day, various fragments of Old Slavic mythology have survived, reaching us in folk songs, traditions, and legends. The book collects the oldest Slavic legends that were passed down orally from generation to generation when our ancestors still had no writing. Later, myths and legends were replaced by historical facts, and many Slavic kingdoms emerged, leaving their mark on world history and laying the foundations of our future.
Jaromír Slushny has literarily combined fragments scattered among folk songs, customs, and fairy tales into ancient Slavic myths. The book relies on ancient written sources that testify to the life of the earliest Slavs and, drawing on knowledge of Indo-European myths and imagination, describes the original Slavic beliefs about the origin of gods and the world.
The book "Slavic Myths and Legends" is an introduction to the world of our ancestors for the so-called uninterested public.
