Denis Ivanovich Fonvizin (1745—1792) — one of the first Russian playwrights, a witty satirist of the 18th century.

The central plot of the comedy «The Minor» focuses on Mitrofanushka, a lazy and foolish young man who dreams of marrying not for love, but for advantage. His despotic mother, Prostakova, is willing to do anything for a profitable marriage. Against this backdrop, the voices of noble heroes stand out particularly brightly — Starodum, Pravdin, and Sofya, who advocate the ideas of reason and honor.
