Afanasy Nikitin

The Tver merchant Afanasy Nikitin is known not only as the first Russian to visit India but also as the author of the famous "Journey Beyond the Three Seas" — one of the first monuments of travel prose in our literature. However, the reasons that sent Nikitin on his unprecedented journey, the details of his biography, and even the exact dates of his travel are still unknown.
