Antarctica. The History of the Study of the Icy Continent

More than 200 years have passed since the expedition of Faddey Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev discovered Antarctica. The torch was carried on by the participants of the first Soviet Antarctic expeditions, who set out to the icy continent 70 years ago to begin its systematic study. Our polar explorers had to work in the harshest and most inaccessible areas of Antarctica.

They were the first to reach the South geomagnetic pole of the Earth and the South Pole of relative inaccessibility. They are credited with establishing the first intercontinental research stations, studying Central and East Antarctica, and the seas of the Southern Ocean.
This book is about our compatriots who opened and studied the last white spot on the map of the world, the icy continent about which little was known just a few decades ago.
The feature of the publication is the numerous photographs, paintings, engravings, and sketches that tell about the pioneers of Antarctica.
