Uncle Remus's Tales

The Russian reader owes their acquaintance with the characters of J. C. Harris's books (1848-1908) to the remarkable translator, philosopher, publicist, and literary scholar M. O. Gershenzon (1869-1925). The amusing adventures of Brother Rabbit, Brother Fox, Brother Opossum, Brother Bear, and their friends are known by children all over the world. All these stories are not the author's inventions, but painstakingly collected and carefully conveyed by Harris, tales from Afro-American folklore, the roots of which can be found both in Africa and even in Ancient Egypt.
The main character of these legends, a typical trickster character, is uncoincidentally chosen to be a weak and harmless animal, for even in the most difficult circumstances, it is important to remember that strength of spirit, inner freedom, resourcefulness, and courage will prevail over rigidity and despotism.
The edition is accompanied by a series of illustrations by the famous Petersburg artist Vladimir Myslitsky.
