The board game «Tragedy Looper» is a psychological detective set in an anime world.
One player is offered to become the scriptwriter, while the other three become detectives. For the detectives to win, they need to avoid the deaths of key characters for a certain number of days and not use all the available time loops. Even if all the time loops are used, the detectives have one last chance – to accurately name the roles of all the characters.
Otherwise, victory goes to the scriptwriter.
The events of the game take place in four locations, among which the characters move. The number of characters and their roles (serial killer, murderer, etc.), as well as the tragedies that must occur (murder, suicide), are defined by the scenarios (there are 12 in the basic game set). At the beginning of the game, the entire picture is known only to the scriptwriter.
Before the game, all players receive the same set of cards. Each day (turn), the scriptwriter and the detectives play three cards for characters to move them between locations or change their parameters (paranoia and friendliness). If a character's paranoia reaches its maximum, they can become the culprit of the incident (for example, suicide, disappearance, or murder). If friendliness reaches its maximum, the detectives can take advantage of that character's property.
If the current scenario for the day prescribes a death and all necessary conditions for it are met (characters have the required parameter values, are in the same or, conversely, in different locations), someone dies. Then the next day begins. At the end of the last day, the scriptwriter announces whether the detectives were able to win. In case of a loss, the players go back in time, i.e., they start the scenario from the very beginning. The number of such returns is limited and set by the scenario.
