Katherine O’Connor, a smart and determined girl, could not come to terms with how detrimental Dr. Wynn Jeffries' method, outlined in the sensational book "The Free Child," was to the upbringing of her nieces, of which her sister Zelda was utterly delighted. Katherine passionately expressed her point of view to the author, whom she happened to meet in a French café while she was composing another Christmas letter. Her "performance" ended in a scandal, and Miss O’Connor, although she considered herself right, regretted her impetuousness because she liked Jeffries very much, and then a neighbor informed her that she had "seen the future" in which Katherine and Wynn were in love with each other...
