Dictionary of Winged Words and Expressions with Indications of Meanings and Origins

The lexical composition of the Russian language is very rich. But how can it be represented without winged words and expressions?! It simply cannot be! Established speech turns have entered and continue to enter our linguistic life so widely that... we sometimes do not even think about how they got there. Here, in fact, confusion is observed, since most of the dictionaries of winged words and expressions published to date include phraseological units, which is not correct at all. It is a gross mistake to substitute a winged expression with a phraseological unit.
How can we distinguish between them? Winged phrases, in the full sense of the word, "flew in" to the Russian language, but each has its own author; behind each stands a specific historical event or figure. Of course, over time, some words might have changed, and this is right, since language is a living stream of words, evolving and not standing still. We present the original version of the winged expression.
It is no secret that even a line from a song, which has wide circulation, also becomes a winged phrase over time. Language users sometimes simply do not know who the author is.
We have tried not only to collect winged phrases and words but also to present them visually. We set ourselves the task of helping the user to speed up the search for the authorial winged phrase or word as much as possible. We have verified the years of the lives of the authors of famous lines, clarified their meanings.
