Your humble servant, the cat

The cat, living in the family of a school teacher, observes the lives of the home's inhabitants and the nearby streets—with the arrogant detachment characteristic of cats, and the philosophical contemplation inherent to the Japanese. A touching, satirically humorous, and... slightly melancholic narrative from the perspective of a small creature that people have not even bothered to name. Just a cat, carelessly taken from its mother by some boy as a kitten, living under the roof of a modest Japanese house, where it is both scolded and chased, and not fed adequately, yet sometimes petted. In this image reflects the fate of the author himself: Natsume Kinnosuke (Soseki is the literary pseudonym) was born an unwanted sixth child and was given to a foster family, where he was also not loved and after some time was returned. But the ability to fall and rise again, and not lose the taste for life, even when it is bitter, is a fortunate trait that unites people and cats.
