Population: One

Ophelia lived for forty years in Colony 3245.12. Here she buried her husband and raised her son, here she has a settled household and a vegetable garden with tomatoes. Therefore, when the colonists receive orders to leave the settled planet, Ophelia decides — she is not going anywhere. She is tired of her daughter-in-law's moralizing and her son's reproaches. She wants to grow tomatoes, wear flowing dresses, and at least in her old age live as she wishes.

And indeed, when Ophelia is left alone on a whole planet, she begins a new life – free and happy. However, when someone kills the entire crew of the scout ship that landed on her planet, Ophelia realizes that it seems the population of this planet consists of more than just her…
