In the distant year of 1803, the United States made a deal with France, resulting in the acquisition of a vast area of land known as Louisiana. It was indeed a gigantic territory, as it made up almost a third...
of the current area of the United States. Naturally, such a territory needed to be explored and developed, which is why Thomas Jefferson, the acting president at the time, entrusted this task to two officers: William Clark and Meriwether Lewis. This expedition lasted from 1804 to 1806, and during these two years, Lewis and Clark established friendly relations with the indigenous population, discovered deposits of valuable resources, and mapped many waterways. This expedition allowed them to become the first Americans to cross the territory now known as the Wild West.About the Game
In the board game "Lewis and Clark: Expedition," you will become the leader of your own team of explorers and can replicate the success of the two renowned officers. Chart your course in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark, find deposits of valuable resources, discover water routes, and gain the support of Native Americans to be the first to reach the Pacific coast! How to Play?
The game board represents a map of Louisiana, on which the route of the expedition is marked, and there is a Native American settlement where you can perform actions to gain resources.Players take turns, and on their turn must perform one mandatory action:Play a character card
Send Native Americans to the settlement
In both cases, you will need to spend Native American tokens from your personal reserve to pay for the action. By using character cards, you can gather basic resources, such as wood, food, equipment, and fur, acquire new Native American tokens, and also move along the route. In the settlement, you will find more interesting actions:Hunting, crafting, and accepting gifts allow you to gain 2 types of resources at once
Buying horses and making canoes provide transport for advancing along the route
Expanding the expedition adds boats to your fleet to carry more resources and Native Americans
Saying goodbye allows you to completely refresh your travel journal by discarding cards from your hand
And seeking the help of a shaman lets you repeat the action of a character card open in the play area of any player
Additionally, before or after the mandatory action, you can perform one extra action: draw a new card by hiring a character and paying its cost in resources; or set up a camp to return played character cards to your hand. Setting up camp slows your expedition down as it requires time.Who Won?
The game continues until one of the players reaches Fort Clatsop first – the endpoint of the journey – and sets up camp there. The one who accomplishes this faster than the others is declared the winner! Game Duration: 30 minutes or moreNumber of Players: 1 to 5
