Geometric Mosaic. Part 2. Ornaments, Symmetry. Tasks for Children Aged 7-9

Mathematics for schoolchildren aged 7-9 is not only about counting but also involves various geometric tasks. Repeating a pattern based on a sample, building from a constructor according to a scheme – this is also mathematics. The sequence of working with any new geometric material is as follows:

– First, free play to familiarize oneself with the pieces, "create whatever you want, build your picture";
– "Build according to the sample using 2-3 pieces" (in this mosaic, the angles are not right, so even a sweet made of three pieces may not be easy for children to replicate);
– "Build according to a large colorful scheme by overlay" (placing pieces on top of the drawing);
– "Build according to a large black-and-white scheme and color each piece in the necessary colors";
– "Build according to a reduced color scheme";
– "Build according to a reduced black-and-white scheme and color each piece in the necessary colors";
– "Come up with your own picture and outline it";
– "Come up with your own picture and draw it using triangular cells".

We are used to working with cubes, bricks, and other shapes that have right angles. Mosaic, in this regard, is much more complex and interesting, as the pieces have angles of 30, 60, 120, and 150 degrees.
In this notebook, in addition to small plot pictures, we have collected many different tasks on symmetry. For working with these tasks, you may need a rectangular pocket mirror. As a mirror, you can use the screen of a mobile phone.
