The book "Titans of Psychiatry of the 20th Century" is dedicated to four great scientists of the 20th century who made the most significant contribution to the formation of modern scientific psychiatry as we know it today: Emil Kraepelin, Eugen Bleuler, Sigmund Freud, and Karl Jaspers.
So much diverse literature has been written about each of these remarkable scientists that it seems impossible to say something new about them. But the authors of the book have succeeded: they tried to give it a human dimension, to show each hero not only as a scientist but also as an ordinary person: his feelings and emotions, virtues and shortcomings, strong and weak character traits, bad habits, religious, moral, political, and philosophical beliefs, as well as often errors and misconceptions.
The creators of the book sought to place the development of the ideas articulated by these scientists in a historical context, showing the influence of the ideas of their predecessors, teachers, and mentors on themselves and their scientific worldview. The authors of the book also confirm with historical examples the legitimacy of psychiatry's existence as a separate scientific discipline and its inseparable connection with neurology, neurobiology, somatic medicine, and psychology.
An important advantage of this book is that the authors present many little-known and seldom-mentioned facts.
