"October 7 crumpled the soul, and the essence became indistinguishable from the body." On October 7, grief thickened over the desert, swelled and poured out in an endless stream. In the depths of this stream, relentless time carries Ivan Glukhov and his loved ones. Glukhov repeatedly wanders mentally through the streets and alleys of his recent past, while the frozen present has turned into a universal viscous unknown. Glukhov cannot afford to stop — it is vital for him to swim and survive: the stream has separated him from the dearest person in the world, and Glukhov must find him.
