Unknown Kafka

Since 1910 and almost until his death, the Austrian writer of Jewish descent Franz Kafka (1883–1924) kept diaries — twelve large notebooks in-quarto. However, in 1917–1919, Kafka set them aside and focused exclusively on his creative notebooks. Eight small blue... notebooks in-octavo contain the sketches of the artist: quite genre-defined fragments — short stories, parables, aphorisms — and primary material of literary ideas, barely processed by creative will — thoughts and images, "clusters of imagination," allowing us to see how Kafka's texts were born in his consciousness, and perhaps still only in his subconscious...In this edition, the notebooks, as well as fragments, sketches, and letters of Kafka, are published in translation by G. B. Notkin with notes and comments from the translator.
