The Ship

Far future. After a series of cataclysms and wars, power on Earth has passed to intelligent machines. The remaining humans live under their supervision in a kind of paradise: at thirty, they receive immortality, and in conditions of complete abundance,... they are free to do almost anything they like, but only not to question the existing order. Only a small part of humanity, due to genetic reasons, remains mortal, and in return, they gain the ability to travel to the stars, as only the consciousness of deep old people can traverse vast distances without loss, integrating into artificial bodies. Meanwhile, the machines send out research probes in an attempt to find traces of an ancient alien civilization that perished millions of years ago, but, judging by the scant information, it left behind the Cascade – a system that allows instant movement to any point in the galaxy. In an attempt to find it, the artificial intelligence encounters something monstrous, a strange object that caused the demise of all intelligent races in the Milky Way long ago. And now Earth, and all its inhabitants, face deadly danger.
