The new translation of the Torah into Russian presented for your attention is unique. Carefully preserving the original text and its understanding by the Jewish tradition, the translators nevertheless rejected the unjustified use of archaisms, the literal transmission of Hebrew... idioms, and grammatical constructions alien to modern Russian. For the first time, Russian-speaking readers are given the opportunity to read the text of the Pentateuch in contemporary literary Russian. Classic Jewish interpretations were used in the translation, primarily Rashi's commentary.
