Gates of Mystery

Widely known in Turkey and far beyond its borders primarily as the author of the detective series about Inspector Nevzat, with whom Russian-speaking readers are already familiar through the novels "The Istanbul Riddle" and "The Swallow's Cry," in his book "Gates of Mystery," Ahmet Umit appears as a storyteller capable of overcoming the canons of genres and combining them, to show from a new perspective the relationships between people and religion, passion and faith, relevant today as they were centuries ago.
The narrative foundation of the book is the story of a woman searching for the meaning of life, tormented by thoughts of her missing father and the fate of her unborn child. And into this story are woven several intriguing threads related to Sufism, the history of the city of Konya, and the relationships between the outstanding poet and thinker of the Middle Ages Jalal ad-Din Rumi and the mystic and theologian of the East Shams Tabrizi and the mystery of his death.
