The first novel by Hemingway, dedicated to the "lost generation" of the 1920s, became a kind of reflection of the author's personal story, which largely mirrored the story of his characters. Scorched by war, disillusioned, they rush to live, immersing... themselves in the world of night Paris or mingling with the crowd of spectators at a Spanish bullfight, trying to find support in friendship or plunging into the whirlpool of unexpectedly ignited feelings…
The novel is adapted using Ilya Frank's method of teaching reading: it is equipped with a literal translation into Russian and necessary lexical-grammatical commentary (without simplifying the original text).
The uniqueness of the method lies in the fact that the memorization of words and expressions occurs through their repeatability, without rote learning and the necessity to use a dictionary. Furthermore, the reader becomes accustomed to the logic of the English language, beginning to "feel" it.
