Frederick Gustav Barnaby (1842–1885) was a British Army intelligence officer and renowned adventurer and traveler. He has also been to Africa, Central Asia and Russia. He spoke several foreign languages, ran for parliament, and published several books. In his honor, an obelisk was erected on the grounds of St. Philip's Cathedral in Birmingham, on which are carved: "Burnaby", "Khiva 1875" and "Abu Klea 1885".
