Bergman. Theatre. Cinema

Irina Rubanova, a recognized classic of domestic film criticism, examines several plots from the creative life of the Swedish director: the first theatrical experiments and initial approaches to cinematography, Bergman's productions based on the plays of Shakespeare and Strindberg, the struggle against the established image of the patriarch of the arts at the concluding stages of his career. Not claiming to be comprehensive in Bergman's theatre and filmography, the book is structured as a series of separate essays, united by a common methodological foundation — a biographical principle, interpreted not as a horizontal life narrative, but as a vertical of creative evolution.
