Listening is Interesting! Development of Auditory Perception: Initial Stage

In order for a child to master speech, they need to accumulate vocabulary and learn to understand addressed speech. These skills are formed through the ability to hear and listen (analyze, compare, memorize what is heard). Before a child learns... to understand words and phrases, before they have access to subtle phonemic analysis and analysis of grammatical structures, they learn to distinguish the characteristics of sound, non-speech sounds, and generally feel the difference between sound and silence, catching the slightest pauses in sound.

In our methodological manual, there are tasks that will help teach the child to maintain auditory attention, understand the difference between sound and silence, distinguish intonation, pace, duration and intensity of sound, timbre, number of sounds, and rhythm. Tasks aimed at distinguishing non-speech sounds will help the child learn to pay attention to the sounds around them, recognize and correlate them with illustrations. Additionally, the manual includes tasks focused on distinguishing first words, sound imitations, and phrases.
