The debut collection of stories by Anna Shipilova reflects the reflection of growing up against the backdrop of a rapidly changing reality. It is not only the author's attempt to comprehend the present but also a glance into the future,... which seems to be already at the doorstep. Among its characters are teenagers, young girls, and young women facing violence, betrayal, trauma, and ever-new challenges. Their world is disordered and devoid of support, loved ones are inadequate, and the surrounding reality is breaking apart before their eyes — they grow up against all odds. Despite the grim pictures of the future that turn out to be overturned into the past, these stories are permeated with an inevitable ironic tone, which prevents losing light in the hopeless darkness.
