The Last Move

In 1941, Warsaw is occupied by German troops. Marie Florkowska is only fourteen, but she dreams of becoming the world chess champion. For now, she trains with her father all day long and participates in the Polish Resistance in the... evenings. One day, on a mission, she makes a fatal mistake, and she and her family are sent to Auschwitz, where political prisoners have only one path — to the execution wall. But the camp commandant's deputy, Karl Frich, learns of her chess skills. He decides to use the girl for his own amusement — organizing tournaments between her and other prisoners, where the price of losing is death. Maria fights every day, determined to survive no matter what, escape from the camp, and make the murderers of her family pay for their deeds.
