In the tabletop game Break the Cube, there is an unusual combination of spatial puzzle and excitement that keeps all players in constant tension from the beginning to the end of the game. You will not only have to solve...
a challenging logic puzzle but also do it faster than your opponent. Every turn is precious — any thoughtless question or wasted action brings your opponent closer to victory!
At the beginning of the game, players receive a set of three colored Tetris pieces, from which they must build a three-dimensional structure behind their screen on a numbered 3x3 grid according to certain rules. The players' task is to accurately replicate the opponent's figure on the left as quickly as possible.
How to do this? On your turn, you can ask your opponent one of three questions:
1. What do you see in the cell numbered X?
All cells of the grid on which the figure is built are numbered from 1 to 9. If you are asked this question, you must look at your structure strictly from above and answer what color you see in that cell. It doesn't matter if there are other blocks underneath it — you only name the top color.
2. What do you see under letter X?
Each row and column of the grid is assigned one letter from A to M. If you ask this question, your opponent must look at their structure from the side of that letter and tell you all the colors of the blocks they see at all levels from bottom to top. It may not be immediately clear whether they are strictly on top of each other or if some block can be seen in the depth — this information will have to be verified.
Yes, this type of question will give you a lot of information at once, but it has one small catch. You personally and all other players must also answer it, not just your personal opponent. So try to ask questions carefully to get the information you need, but at the same time not reveal too much of your own.
3. Did I correctly replicate your figure?
You must create an identical copy of the structure behind your opponent's screen. If you succeed — the players finish the round to the end, and the game ends with the victory of those who successfully completed the task. If you make even a slight mistake, the game continues — you will have to rearrange something and try again.
If you find it difficult to keep everything in your head, you can play in an easier mode using sheets to record the information received. Conversely, if you have already gained experience and want a new challenge, the game can be made more difficult. For example, build structures not from three pieces but from four to five (when playing with two players). Or play with only one attempt to ask the final question, in case of failure — elimination!
