Apology of Narcissus

The new book by Boris Groys is dedicated to the phenomenon of the aestheticization of culture and the individual, which is characteristic of modernity and has become more than ever an object of contemplation. The necessity or even obligation of self-design transforms today's society into a narcissistic one. By exploring the experience contained in the ancient Greek myth, Groys reconsiders the simplified — and often negative — representation of Narcissus as a passive observer of his body and recognizes him as one of the symbolic heroes of our era.
