Separation: how to stop depending on other people

Each of us can discover many "frozen" reactions within ourselves that reflect dependency on parents or the environment in which we grew up. They all require to be noticed, that is, to be recognized.
To become truly adult, one must go... through the process of separation. Separation means that you have managed to complete all the old childhood processes in which you did not receive the important initiation into adult life.
When we appropriate our experience, live through our processes, we separate and become mature. Consciously overcoming the fear of the engulfing parent, restoring our separateness, mourning what happened in childhood, strengthening our personal rights — only in this way can we let go of old defenses and resistance to relationships. Having grown up, we will feel stable enough.
