What is it like to love without a soul?
Knight Huldbrand meets a fisherman and his wife in a lonely hut deep in the forest. They introduce him to their adopted daughter - the fair-haired, blue-eyed beauty Undine. Huldbrand immediately falls... in love with her, forgetting his promise to marry Lady Bertalda.
Undine confesses that she is not a human but a water spirit. But this does not stop Huldbrand, and he marries her, taking her to his castle.
