What is it like to love without a soul?
Knight Huldbrand meets a fisherman and his wife in a lonely hut deep in the forest. They introduce him to their adopted daughter - the fair-haired, blue-eyed beauty Undine. Huldbrand immediately falls in love with her, forgetting his promise to marry Lady Bertalda.
Undine confesses that she is not a human but a water spirit. But this does not stop Huldbrand, and he marries her, taking her to his castle. Gradually, Undine realizes that her true nature cannot be hidden from the gossip of many people. Moreover, she notices the attraction between Huldbrand and Bertalda.
