Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin (1766–1826) — poet, writer, publisher of "Moscow Magazine" and "Herald of Europe", the last historiographer of Russia, author of "Poor Lisa" and "History of the Russian State" in 12 volumes. Before you is the original, richly illustrated edition of Volumes VII–XII of "History of the Russian State" by Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin, covering the period from the beginning of the 16th to the beginning of the 17th century. The book narrates the reign of Vasili Ivanovich, Ivan the Terrible, Fyodor Ivanovich, and the subsequent Time of Troubles. Nikolai Mikhailovich worked on creating a historical bestseller of his time for over 20 years but did not manage to finish it. The text of the manuscript for Volume XII breaks off at the chapter "Interregnum (1611–1612)", although the author intended to bring the narrative up to the beginning of the rule of the Romanov dynasty. Karamzin succeeded in creating a highly artistic historical book intended for a wide circle of readers. The edition is published with abbreviations.
