The English Patient

«The English Patient» — a story that has won major literary awards. The novel received the Booker Prize in 1992. In 2018, «The English Patient» was awarded a special prize, the «Golden Booker», which was timed to the 50th anniversary... of the Booker Prize. It is awarded based on the results of a readers' vote, who considered this book the best novel from the Booker list over 50 years. The book was adapted for film in 1996 by director Anthony Minghella. The movie won nine «Oscars», including «Best Picture» and «Best Director».

He met her when she came to North Africa with her husband. He fell in love with her when she quoted Herodotus, sitting by the fire in the southern night. He lost her when she became everything in his life.
Now all that remains of him is a frail body lying on a hospital bed in a ruined Italian villa. Nurse Hana voluntarily cares for her «English patient». She sees in him the familiar life that was taken away by World War II. His condition is deteriorating, his memory is weakening, slipping away like sand through fingers. But he smiles, for with each passing day he gets closer to his Catherine.
