A practical book full of deep research and insights on the mega-current trend of constant noise, which has become both familiar and harmful to us.
This guide to overcoming the noises of the modern world is not only in our ears...
but also on our screens and in our heads. Drawing on knowledge in the fields of neurobiology, business, spirituality, politics, and the arts, Justin Zorn and Leigh Marz illustrate why acoustic, informational, and internal silence are so important for physical and psychological health, the resilience of ecological systems, and full public life.
To find out what silence is and to master the art of attaining it in any situation, the authors will take us on an incredible journey—we will visit the White House, death row cells at San Quentin prison, leading American universities' neurobiological laboratories, underground psychedelic circles, national parks, and on stage at a rock festival.
In this book, you will learn:
- How to turn off unnecessary noise in your consciousness.
- Why it is so important to live and work in silence at least from time to time.
- Numerous accessible practices for attaining that silence which we have learned to consider golden.
