Drawing the Head and Hands

The individuality of faces is a subject that is interesting to everyone, especially to those who have even a slight talent for drawing. As soon as we begin to understand the reasons for the differences in faces, this topic becomes... all-consuming. Faces not only distinguish us but also say a lot about each of us. Thoughts, emotions, worldview, and even our way of life are captured on our faces. The mobility of flesh – in other words, facial expressions – gives the face more than just uniqueness.
I will say right away: you do not need the ability to "look into the soul" or read minds to draw a head well. What is primarily needed is the correct interpretation of shapes in proportions, perspective, and lighting. All other qualities appear in the drawing as a result of interpreting the form. If the artist has accurately captured it, then the "soul," or character, will reveal itself.
