Such are the conclusions of Jack Reacher, a former military policeman who is hastily leaving a Texas town due to trouble with a local cop. Jack doesn’t care who will give him a ride, as long as it’s quick. To his complete amazement, a car stops on the scorching road three minutes after he hitchhiked. This is Reacher's personal record. Especially since the driver of the luxurious Cadillac is a woman — beautiful, young, and apparently wealthy. But it’s too early to be flattered — she is driven not by heartfelt kindness or sudden attraction to a stranger. Carmen Greer poses a danger, and she is counting on his help.
