Alphonse Mucha is a renowned painter, theatrical designer, jeweler, and unparalleled graphic artist whose work can be considered a benchmark of the Art Nouveau style. For over a century, the stunning and ideal female images, smooth flowing lines, beautiful floral motifs, and arched framing in the works of this great master have left no one indifferent. Alphonse Mucha sought to emphasize the originality of his artistic ideas, aimed to demonstrate achievements, and wanted to create a unique vocabulary of artistic language for colleagues and students. Among the artist's enlightening endeavors is the book "Lectures on Art." In this publication, the author not only explains the techniques of building composition and the choice of a particular form for graphic work but also reflects on the main problems that a graphic artist may encounter. Gradually moving through the key elements of the Art Nouveau style, Alphonse Mucha analyzes important topics such as balance in composition, harmony of the human body, use of color, and stylization of works. To illustrate his theoretical comments, the author supplemented the lectures with a series of sketches and drawings, some of which include excellent miniature drawings, as well as selected finished works, confirming the close connection between the creator's aesthetic principles and his completed works. This publication not only reveals to the wider public Alphonse Mucha's talent as a lecturer but undoubtedly can be used for education in various fields of visual art.
