The Bell of Nagasaki

When the atomic bomb "Fat Man" exploded over Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, Dr. Takashi Nagai was working at a university hospital near the epicenter. Having barely escaped from the half-destroyed building and despite serious injuries, he, along with other... doctors, began to provide assistance to the survivors. The report of the first terrifying days after the atomic bombing formed the basis of the book "The Bell of Nagasaki." 
Dr. Nagai died of leukemia two years after the publication. His essay became both a unique testimony of an eyewitness to the catastrophe and a scientist's reflection on the nature of the atomic bomb, as well as a humanistic call: such a thing must never happen again.
