Elma York is a former pilot, a World War II veteran, and a brilliant mathematician. She is one of the first to calculate that the consequences of a catastrophic meteorite fall on the east coast of the USA are much... more serious than initially thought and threaten to make the planet uninhabitable in the near future. Humanity launches a program for space exploration and colonization, and Elma dreams of participating in the Moon landing project.
