Carthage in 215 BC, after Hannibal's victory at Cannae, he attempted to seize Illyria - a region in the northwest Balkans. However, the Romans managed to provoke a war against Macedonia with the alliance of the Aetolian states. As a result, Philip was unable to seize Illyria or assist the Carthaginians in Italy.
